What makes an image cliché?
An image becomes cliché when it is overused to a point that it is no longer noticeable as an original idea or concept.
What is a metaphor?
A metaphor is statement that compares a situation to an example that is not normally associated in the same context.
How does it function?
A metaphor functions by exaggerating a regular a situation to make a point with humor or sarcasm. i.e. I’m as hungry as a horse, stubborn as a mule.
Why is it important?
I think metaphors and cliché’s are important because they add to the creativity of the English language.
My concept for this project was pretty simple. I thought about how movie stars of today and the past were worshipped and treated as if they were greater than the rest of the public. I wanted to distort their images without total abusing the head shots that were captured many years ago. Some of the images I created became more distorted than others only because I had no real direction for each individual image. I then wanted to make them appear to be a series of photos that may have been in a special edition of Life magazine if they had they desire and technology to alter an image back then. I imagined the pieces to be special fold outs of the magazine and marketed as collectables, similar to baseball cards in early editions of Sports Illustrated. The text DigiHollywood seemed like a well fitting combination of the past and present in one word.
Many of you seemed to enjoy guessing who each picture was of, here is the list of the performers.
